Money
Money is the way most of us survive in the modern world, if you can call it modern. Technologically advanced, maybe, but modern? Well, that is debatable. We still use weapons, and we still fight over the same things we have fought over for hundreds of years: land, resources, religion, money, politics and possession. We as a race seem to want to force our will upon others – “You will believe in this!” “We want that land; we will take it!” “What you believe is wrong!” or “Who you are and what you say are wrong,” and “the colour of your skin is wrong”; your language, religion, culture, and sexuality are wrong. I want that! Women – men, money, knowledge and power. WOW
We really are screwed up.
You would have thought we would have figured it out by now that WAR of any kind, whether it be a brawl outside a pub over a spilt pint or a girl or man, for that matter, to a full-scale military campaign over oil, religion or land, we humans don’t get it. I guess we are not as intelligent as we think we are. I mean, let's face it, if you take away all our technology, what are we?
Well, not very high on the food chain, that's for sure.
There is no reason why we can’t all get along in this world on this planet as a multicultural, multi-religious society, sharing our world of wondrous magnificence, our diversity in religions, cultures, politics, skin colour, sexual tendencies and genders. We are ALL alien to each other, and I know the question has been asked throughout the centuries, but why fight? There is absolutely no real reason.
What does it actually achieve? NOTHING! Because the loser will always want to take back what was taken, at the very least, hold a grudge against the victor and want revenge.
We fight to make others understand us and to impose our beliefs and thoughts upon them. We are right; they are wrong. ACTUALLY, NO! We are all wrong for doing this so very wrong. There will always be those among us who want what they don’t have, so they take it for themselves, no matter the cost. Again, this can be something as simple as shoplifting a sweet or as serious as invading a country; it all boils down to the same thing: the divide between the rich and poor, the haves and have-nots.
Money is a root cause of the world’s problems as well as the means to its own prosperity. Money causes division amongst us all, as well as drawing us close. Money eases the way in this societal world, but it does NOT make us happy. Well, it does, insofar as it gets us the things we want, and it gives us a sense of security while we have it. But when we don't, we begrudge those who do.
Peace of mind makes us happy. No stress makes us happy. People make us happy. Family makes us happy. Achievement makes us happy. Having time to ourselves, just being human and being free to be ourselves makes us happy. Love makes us happy. Sex makes us happy. Oh, I could go on, but you get the point. The thing is, if you take away all those things that actually make us happy, then we are alone, and all the money, knowledge and power in the world will not ease that pain. We cannot find a way for all countries and cultures to get along.
As a society, for hundreds of years, we have frowned upon gay relationships. Personally, I am happy that others find love, whether it be gay, lesbian, heterosexual, bisexual, or transsexual. What does it really matter? As I have said before, love is in the eye of the beholder, and those who find love are the richest people in the world and the happiest.
Now, going on about love this way seems a bit 60s or 70s, but we would get further in this world with love because for love to work, there must be tolerance, respect and understanding, and let’s face it, the world is seriously lacking in all those things. If only all sexes, cultures, and religions could simply say, “Well, OK, I don’t believe in your religion; I think it is wrong, BUT! If that’s what you want to believe in, then fine, we will just agree to disagree. I will not impose my faith on you if you don’t impose yours upon me” (see how simple that is). We will respect each other’s cultures, land and religions, and maybe even learn from each other.
I am not stupid; I know that this blog is probably a total waste of time.
One, because no one reads it.
and two, because nothing will ever change,
People in general are selfish; they never listen unless it suits them, and before you all get on my case, yes, I know not everyone is like that, but there is always a 'but'; there are a bloody lot that are enough to warrant some people not wanting to go outside, and who can blame them? Does that make sense? anyway
Tolerance is the way to that brave new world, but it can only work if everyone – and that’s over 7 billion people – becomes tolerant of each other.
That just isn't going to occur! Politicians and governments that disregard their own citizens are not always controlled by those in positions of authority.
But please, just for a moment, consider what our world would be like “IF” we did all get along. Think of all the things that the human race could achieve together; things would be even more incredible than they have been over the last 50 years. Science and the technological advances would be beyond incredible without that secrecy, with all those great minds, scientists, doctors, intellectuals, etc., all working together, not separated by the highest bidder or against each other to see who can get there first so that country and government can take credit and make money from it. But just to benefit the world.
Just imagine for a moment if all the governments in the world worked together, ha yep right but just imagine with the whole world working as one, with one single global community, say for example in this imaginary world out of respect for culture their currency would remain the same but the value would standardised $1 is £1, 1 yen and 1 whatever and so on taxes would be unified a world international insurance and global health service with money standardised it would not matter in which country you manufactured shipped from or to it would not cost you any more or less this would lead to global trade on a scale never before seen and countries that were poor under the old system would become equals in this world all people working together producing, growing, manufacturing, distributing now to eradicate the divide between rich and poor All companies would be non-profit with a set standard of living. Everyone would be the same in relation to their standard of living; you would still be paid more than you needed so you could pursue hobbies and make home improvements.
I know this is not practical, and there would be those who wouldn't want this; they would want to live off the land themselves in a house they built or a shack or mobile home of some kind, and some will always want more or better than the next person, but the point is the divide could be managed, even reduced, and both cultures be supported by this system; it still maintains those choices of individuality.
This new system enables every single person working or otherwise anywhere in the world to pay taxes and insurance to a global scheme; even the benefits system could have a taxable element built in to it. The companies would pay taxes based on profit; the percentage would be small to the company but substantial to the budget for global affairs, and that is unless we can get rid of money altogether and all just work for the good of each other. Ha, fat chance.
Anyway, all this is just a pipe dream, futuristic science fiction and totally unworkable due to man’s intolerance towards each other, and I know it is way more complicated than that, BUT I maintain that if the greatest minds were to think this over, it would be workable in some form, but that is not practical for the control freaks who run the world.
I truly hope that we can change our ways before mankind finds a way to travel to far-off worlds, because if we do find others? Intelligent life – it will be embarrassing with our present attitude; it will lead to our destruction as it is now or even the destruction of what other wondrous things we may find out there.
But by the same token, in some ways it is good that we have gone through this process so we have experience of knowing about fear, prejudice, slavery and so on.
Ultimately it WILL be tolerance, respect and understanding that will carry mankind forward and beyond the stars and our prejudices.
And all this from someone who has mental health issues, so it can all be brushed off as a manic gush of insanity from someone who does not have any tolerance, feelings, emotions or patience himself.
Until next time then…
